WHO has received overwhelming pro-bono support from technology companies to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. On 2 April, 30 of the world’s leading digital technology experts gathered in a virtual roundtable to help advance WHO’s collaborative response to COVID-19.

In this Comment, we use the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic to explore some of the ways in which digital public health can transform the public health response. Through this exploration, we hope to highlight the broader potential for digital public health in making public health prevention, surveillance, and responses more effective across a wide range of challenges. Technology has a vital role to play in the response to Covid-19, both in developing tools to fight the virus itself and in cushioning the impact on society as the pandemic persists. Over the coming weeks and months, the Technology and Public Policy team at TBI will be going deeper into the solutions technology can offer through a series of policy briefs.
